USHG Reopens Restaurants to Feed Food Insecure

Danny Meyer will convert three of his restaurant venues into community kitchens to help prepare meals for food-insecure residents in South Bronx, reports Nation’s Restaurant News. The program is a partnership between Meyer’s New York-based Union Square Hospitality Group; Brookfield Properties, which has committed $1 million to support the effort; and Rethink Food, a nonprofit that reclaims unused food from restaurants to feed those in need. The Specialty Food Foundation has adopted new bylaws and appointed a new board of directors in an effort to restart programs to alleviate food waste and encourage food recovery. More Customers are Snacking, Indulging in Comfort Food

Half of consumers say they snacked more in May, up 38 percent from April, according to a survey by FMCG Gurus, reports CNBC. In addition, 60 percent said they bought more comfort food, including confectionery products.
